Position Summary:
Lenawee Christian School’s vision is to see students grow in their relationship with Jesus; strive towards their full potential, and to live a life of influence. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This role works closely with coaches, athletic staff, and medical personnel to ensure the safety and well-being of students participating in sports. The role also involves promoting injury prevention strategies, providing emergency care, and managing athletic training facilities and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Injury Prevention:
Develop and implement injury prevention programs for athletes.
Educate student-athletes on proper conditioning, stretching, and warm-up techniques.
Conduct preseason evaluations, concussion baseline tests, and screenings for athletes to assess potential injury risks.
Injury Evaluation and Treatment:
Assess injuries sustained during practices and competitions.
Provide immediate treatment for acute injuries, including first aid and emergency care.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop treatment plans.
Document injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress in medical records.
Rehabilitation:
Design and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes to return them to sport safely.
Monitor the recovery progress of injured athletes and make necessary adjustments to rehabilitation plans.
Educate athletes on proper techniques for reconditioning and injury prevention.
Game and Practice Coverage:
Attend all home games and practices for assigned sports, providing on-site injury evaluation and care.
Travel with teams for playoff games and with varsity football team.
Provide emergency care and make decisions regarding the return-to-play status of injured athletes.
Collaboration and Communication:
Maintain open communication with coaches, athletic staff, and parents regarding the health and safety of athletes.
Work closely with other medical professionals (physicians, physical therapists) to ensure comprehensive care.
Assist in managing athletic department and MHSAA policies on concussion protocols, return-to-play guidelines, and injury management.
Administrative Duties:
Utilize FinalForms to maintain accurate medical records for all athletes, ensuring compliance with legal and school district requirements.
Assist in inventory and management of athletic training equipment and supplies.
Ensure that the athletic training room is clean, organized, and properly stocked.
Stay updated on the latest athletic training techniques, certifications, and safety regulations.
Professional Development:
Attend professional development courses and workshops related to athletic training, sports medicine, and injury prevention.
Maintain certifications (e.g., Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, CPR/First Aid).
Qualifications:
Christian Faith:
Profess and demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Adherence to Christian principles and values in both personal and professional life.
Educational Background/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers.
Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Experience working with high school athletes preferred.
Knowledge of sports-related injuries, prevention, and rehabilitation techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to assess injuries quickly and provide appropriate treatment.
Strong organizational skls and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods during practices and games.
Physical ability to lift and assist injured athletes when necessary.
